NGAPEKE PERMACULTURE

Proudly supported by Mauao Adventures.

Join the team at Ngapeke on our tribal lands in the heart of Tauranga. A 2-hour eco experience touring our permaculture garden, learning about indigenous practices and getting your hands dirty with a workshop.

Ngapeke Permaculture uses sustainable indigenous practices to grow food and to restore land to its natural state after a long period of industrialised agriculture. We are big on working with Nature and not against it! As a result, we have created a beautiful relaxing earth friendly environment for trees, plants, animals and humans to thrive and mingle happily and sustainably together!

Farm tours (on foot) are available but are weather dependent and appropriate footwear is necessary. There are also a number of daily outdoor and indoor (or wet weather) activities suited to all fitness levels.

The activities may include, but are not limited to…

  • Māra kai (annual/perennial food garden) preparation.

  • Compost preparation, turning, sieving, moving, spreading.

  • Mulching māra kai, footpaths, food-forest, native areas.

  • Food-forest planting, maintenance (swales and syntropic areas).

  • Plant nursery, propagation, potting on.

  • Wetland restoration preparation/planting.

  • Animal care including feeding, watering.

  • Harvesting fruit and vegetables (in season).

  • Preparing fruit and vegetables for storing.

  • Preparing herbs and fruit for dehydrating.

  • Preparing medicinal herbal remedies.

You will be looked after and guided by our team who will explain our earth friendly strategies along the way.

Dressing appropriately is essential, including closed footwear, sun protection, garden gloves recommended, raincoat for wet weather and a drink bottle.

Snacks, merchandise and various products are available for purchase onsite.
